Maxim Mikhailov and Sam Deru returned to the starting line-up at Zenit after a two-match break. The new head coach of Ural Igor Shulepov, who recently replaced Andrey Voronkov, has released Andrei Ushkov and diagonal Roman Potalyuk as a binder.
Potalyuk immediately got under the block of Mikhail Labinsky, and then hit out twice in a row, thanks to which Zenit immediately broke away on Roman Romanovsky's serves – 5:0. When Potalyuk sent another ball out (7:14), it was not he who went into reserve, but Ushkov – Alexander came out instead Butko, last year's partner of Mikey Christenson. The American Zenit binder discovered a scorer in the first game: he scored a passing ball, successfully attacked twice and made an ace – 18:9. Mike scored 4 points, as did Labinsky.
Deru immediately scored an ace with a pitch to Maxim Budyukhin's libero, and then knocked Milad Ebadipour out of the reception twice in a row – 3:0. Ural won back thanks to Ace Butko, who was helped by a cable, as well as the successful actions of Uros Kovacevich in attack – 10:10. Thanks to the efforts of Deru and Labinsky, Zenit again went to a distance of +3, but Kovacevich, with his ace and Ebadipour attack, restored parity again – 19:19. In the end, Andrei Surmachevsky came on as a useful substitute: with a feed to Budyukhin, he got a passing ball, which Labinsky scored in a counterattack – 24:22. The winning point was set by Deru, who had a 100% realization in this set (5/5). Kovachevich gave similar figures to Ural.
Ural also failed at the beginning of the third set (2:7), but quickly equalized (10:10) due to the block and Kazan errors. Emotions were added to the Ufa team's game by the substitute player Egor Feoktistov. The guests held on to the score until diagonal Potalyuk made a series of three mistakes, after which Zenit took the lead at 19:15. Artyom Volvich scored a "dry" victory for Zenit with a tempo attack.
