On Wednesday, Nizhny Novgorod volleyball players hosted Zenit Kazan, the leader and current champion of the country, on their site. Due to an injury, ASK captain Alexander Pyatyrkin and Serbian binder Igor Jovanovic did not take part in the match, and Daniil Pavlychev, a youth player, was called up to replace him.
The guests released their not-so-basic squad for the game, leaving Dmitry Volkov and Mike Christenson in reserve, and Maxim Mikhailov was replaced after the first set. The first and second games were completely dictated by the guests. In the opening game, Zenit did not lose a single point on offense, the attackers were able to realize a fantastic 92% (12 out of 13), and Mikhail Labinsky, a native of Nizhny Novgorod, became the main point scorer. In the second set, the effectiveness of the guests' attack dropped, but this did not affect the final result in any way. Ten own mistakes and only 4 goals scored from the attack did not allow Andrei Dranishnikov's wards to hope for victory.
The third game was the longest in the match, the number of their own mistakes in this game segment turned out to be equal for the teams. Nizhny Novgorod's serve flew better and even managed to knock the guests out of the reception twice. But this did not stop Zenit. Belgian finishing player Sam Deroux steadily dragged the entire attack on himself, becoming the most productive player of his team in the final set.
