Neftyanik arrived in Kazan in a truncated squad due to injuries - only 10 players. A couple of the finishers were libero Maxim Maksimenko and diagonal Egor Sidenko. Zenit head coach Alexey Verbov has set up the optimal squad.
In the opening match, Maxim Mikhailov had problems with the attack: he twice got under the block and hit out, after which the guests took the lead – 9:8. Zenit captain Artyom Volvich folded and picked up the ball in defense, and in the next draw he hammered with the first tempo. It should be noted that Artem's older brother Anton Volvich took part in the match as the head coach of Neftyanik. Kazan made the decisive breakthrough on the serves of Sam Deru (17:15 – 21:15), who, before that, effectively closed the tempo attack of Maxim Zinchenko with a block.
At the beginning of the second game, Zenit had an excellent block that twice closed Denis Zemchenko's attacks. Alexey Kononov immediately scored an ace (9:3), after which Alexander Urazov came out instead of Sidenko. It was very difficult for the guests to score points in attack (33%) – Kazan defended well and won long draws. Zenit made a lot of mistakes on serve (8 losses), but still won with a big score – 25:16. Dmitry Volkov became the top scorer of the set – 6 points.
Instead of Mikhailov, Kirill Kletz entered the court for the third set, who had not played since February 14 due to injury. Together with his partners, he immediately began to rapidly break away from his rivals in the score, scoring an ace – 9:3. Kazan continued to play easily and beautifully. Sam Deru and Dmitry Volkov were especially pleased with the spectacular actions of the fans. The Neftyanik coaches had no options to enhance the game and tactical maneuvers – Roman Zhos was the only link. In the third set, Zenit quickly achieved a difference of +10 and calmly brought the match to victory.
Thanks to this victory, the Kazan team became the winner of the regular season of Russia ahead of schedule two rounds before the finish, securing the advantage of its site in all rounds of the playoffs.
