Senior Malik Smith joined the Gophers for just one season, but in that time he made his mark upon the record books. On Jan. 26 at Nebraska, Smith stepped up to spark the Gopher offense with eight made 3-pointers, part of a career-high tying 29 points in his first start in Maroon and Gold.
His eight treys tied the school single-game record set by Blake Hoffarber in 2009, and was also the most made 3-pointers by any player in the Big Ten this season in a game. Smith was 9-15 from the field and 8-12 from beyond the arc, helping the Gophers stay in the game despite the absence of leading scorer Andre Hollins. Nebraska would eventually edge the Gophers, 82-78, in the lone meeting between the squads this season.
