As part of the 21st round of the national championship, the Nizhny Novgorod volleyball players hosted the guests from Kemerovo at their home court. Both teams had not tasted victory in 2026, and Kuzbass had a streak of 12 consecutive losses. In the first round, Gorky won in four sets.

The very beginning of the meeting was tense. After Pavel Zheleznyakov's first successful attack and Artem Dovgan's serve, the hosts took the lead (5:0), but the guests equalized the score with Ivan Piskaryov's set in the 1st zone, resulting in a 5:5 tie. Throughout the match, the game remained evenly matched, with a score of 20:20. Piskaryov recovered from Zheleznyakov's single block, and then Egor Sidenko served two aces, leading to a 23:20 victory. After Sidenko's mistake, Zheleznyakov earned a point in the rally-play, almost tying the score at 23:22. However, in the next episode, Kirill Ionov scored the first point, leading to a 24:22 score, and Sidenko recorded a set point, resulting in a 25:23 score.

In the second set, Gorky's play was particularly clean. With only two mistakes made by the Nizhny Novgorod team during the entire set, and a 60% attack rate, Andrey Dranishnikov's team managed to tie the score at 25:15.

In the third set, the game remained close until the very end. With the score at 20:19 in favor of the visitors, Kuzbass's players were able to score a point, with Timofey Tikhonov's accurate hit bringing the score to 21:19. Then the Kemerovo team blocked the attack of the Nizhny Novgorod team's setter, Sergey Nikitin, and then Sidenko came back in the set, 23:19. This advantage was enough for Sergey Trotsky's team to take the set, 25:21.

However, the Nizhny Novgorod team did not give up. The battle for every ball continued in the fourth set. This time, the hosts were the stronger team. With a score of 20:20, Dmitry Filippov's successful single block and Sidenko's attack to the out brought Gorky ahead, 22:20. Nikitin's serve resulted in two set points, and the game ended in favor of the hosts with Sidenko's attack to the out, 25:22.

The shortened game was a continuation of an equal match in full sets, and the outcome was decided in the final set. The teams changed courts at a score of 8:6 in favor of Kemerovo, and the visitors were able to increase their advantage to 10:7. However, the appearance of Maxim Titov, a blocker for Nizhny Novgorod, helped the hosts to close the gap. First, Titov blocked a passing ball after his own attack, and then he hit an ace, leading to a 10:9 score. Finally, Nikitin blocked Sidenko, resulting in a 10:10 score. There was a shootout on both sides. The hosts' mistakes were decisive: Nikitin's block on the serve (12:14), and the blocking players' net touch – 13:15. This is Kuzbass's first victory since November 22, 2025.
