The Gopher Volleyball program is led by one of the most successful coaches in the world – two-time United States Olympic Coach Hugh McCutcheon.
Having coached the 2008 men’s U.S. Olympic team to a gold medal and the 2012 women’s team to silver, McCutcheon has developed a reputation for teaching the fundamentals and techniques needed for athletes to advance to the next level and excel on the biggest stages.
Gopher student-athletes who play for McCutcheon live by core values including hard work, competitive excellence, unity and integrity. Living and working by these values each day and perfecting the skills needed to succeed at the highest levels gives every Gopher the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to become the best player she can possibly be.
Not only do Gopher student-athletes enjoy one of the best teachers in the game of volleyball today, instruction is augmented by the use of modern technology. With department-issued iPads as well as video playback capabilities during practice, Gopher Volleyball utilizes state-of-the-art video teaching to better analyze technique and develop skills.
With skills learned both on and off the court, Gopher Volleyball strives for each of its student-athletes to reach their ultimate goals, both at the University of Minnesota and later beyond.
