Photographer Bob Tetro () discusses his exhibit of photographs of Yellowstone National Park, "Yellowstone Abstracted." See the exhibit through July 1, 2013. For more information, visit .

A lifelong photographer, Tetro returned to Yellowstone in 2011 after a 41-year hiatus from visiting the park. His life and travels working for the Foreign Service led him to photograph Afghanistan, Cambodia, Denmark, Estonia, Holland, India, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Nepal, Norway, Sweden, Thailand, and the continental United States. Upon his return to Yellowstone, he found himself drawn to photograph the abstract, painterly quality of the majestic landscape, rather than the sweeping vistas usually presented to depict the park. Following the photography adage, "Get closer...then get closer still," Tetro was surprised by his fascination with the abstract detail of the landscape.

Featuring 45 x 30 inch photographs mounted directly to sintra (a clear PVC board), the exhibit will immerse visitors in the natural formations of Yellowstone, from the Black Sand Basin to the spectacular Midway Geyser. The large scale allows viewers to intimately experience the detail and abstract elements of the environment.

Tetro, a Washington, DC native, has spent large portions of his life living abroad, in countries including Italy, Argentina, India, and Sweden. A former agent for the USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service, Tetro retired in 2002 and has dedicated recent years to photography. This is his first solo exhibit.
