"Summarising the life of a Jewish Egyptian family is more difficult than summarising "War and Peace". This is one of the insightful observations from "La Parisienne d'Alexandrie", a new show from Isabelle de Botton running at the Comédie Bastille, in Paris. In it, she includes colourful anecdotes, mentioning the expulsion of her family from Egypt under Nasser and her arrival in France, where she is seen as a "North African". Another autobiographical novel is that of Magyd Cherfi in "Ma part de Gaulois". A contender for the Goncourt, the lyricist of the musical group Zebda humorously explains his attachment French republican education and his Algerian origins, of which he frequently reminded. Finally, the singer and multi-instrumentist musician Tamer Abu Ghazaleh, who was born to a family of Palestinian exiles in Cairo, talks about his album "Thulth", released this summer. Considered one of the most innovative artists of his generation, he'll be back in Paris on stage at the Divan du monde, on 7 October for the Festival d'Île de France. A great opportunity to highlight the new generation of independent Arab artists, a symbol of the avant-garde.
