As the joint U.S and South Korean (ROK) amphibious exercise Ssang Yong 16 takes place on the beaches of Pohang, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has vowed to launch a preemptive nuclear strike in response. A recent statement released by the government of North Korea says, "As the joint military exercises to be staged by the enemies are regarded as the most undisguised nuclear war drills aimed to infringe upon the sovereignty of the DPRK (North Korea), its military counteraction will be more preemptive and offensive nuclear strike to cope with them."
