A mid-October matchup between Minnesota and Wisconsin set the tone for what would become a magical season for the Gophers. Having already taken the Friday night game 4-1 at LaBahn Arena in Madison, the second-ranked Gophers and top-ranked Badgers played an instant classic in the series finale, a 2-1 overtime victory for Minnesota.
The Gophers trailed 1-0 with just 1 minute and 28 seconds remaining before senior Rachel Bona found the back of the net to tie the game and send it to overtime.
In the extra frame, senior Rachel Ramsey ended things in dramatic fashion with a goal to earn the overtime win for the Gophers.
Junior Amanda Leveille made a career-high 40 saves in the contest to preserve the team’s undefeated record and the Gophers to the Number One ranking in the nation in the following week’s polls.
