Former Minnesota quarterback and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Tony Dungy spoke to the Gophers before their April 9th spring game at TCF Bank Stadium.
“That was great having a guy with the experience he has and winning those Super Bowls,” said Gophers running back Rodney Smith, who rushed for 97 yards on 18 carries on Saturday. “Just a guy like that in general, the thing that he had to share with us was great to hear.”
Dungy played quarterback for the Gophers from 1973-76 and won the Super Bowl in 1978 as a safety with the Pittsburgh Steelers. As a coach, he led the Indianapolis Colts to the Super Bowl win in 2007. Dungy, Mike Ditka and Tom Flores are the only three men to win Super Bowls as a player and coach.
