On the last day of the New Year holidays, Nizhny Novgorod volleyball players hosted guests from fraternal Belarus at their home ground. The day before, ASK lost at home in five sets to Fakel, and Shakhtar beat Novokuibyshev with a dry score. Diagonal Denis Antonov did not take part in the meeting with the hosts due to injury.
From the very first draws, it became clear that both teams were as determined as possible to win. The first and third games were left to the owners. In them, Nizhny Novgorod residents managed to dominate the grid as much as possible, repeatedly covering the opponent's attack block (Nizhny Novgorod had 18 effective blocks in total during the match, while the guests had only 10).
But in the second game, the Soligorians played more carefully, making two times fewer mistakes of their own, which allowed them to win 25:20. In the fourth game segment, there was a struggle in each draw, and the rivals did not allow each other to break away by more than two points. After a productive discount by Serbian ACE Igor Jovanovic, the hosts took the lead at 23:22. But in the next draw, Shakhtar's blocker Ivan Kazitsyn powerfully struck at the first pace, equalizing the score at 23:23. And in the next two draws, the guests scored points twice on the block, Andrei Marchenko 24:23 and Alexander Safonov 25:23 and 2:2 in games. The match went to a tie-break.
The fifth game also started with an equal game. Nizhny Novgorod managed to make the first breakthrough from the score of 4:4. First, captain Alexander Pyatyrkin powerfully punched the pipe, and then the finish player Artem Masko got into the home team's block twice in a row 7:4. Shakhtar won back one point due to an error in the attack of the finish player Ivan Valeev 7:5. And already in the next draw, Serbian diagonal ASK Petar Premovic recouped from the hands of the blockers and forced the teams to switch platforms 8:5. Valeev went to put the ball into play on the home team's serve, who did it confidently and steadily, scoring an ace. Andrey Dranishnikov's wards increased their advantage to a more than confident score of 11:5. The guests tried to get involved in the chase, but the advantage was for ASK. In the decisive episode, Masko attacked out in the final game, and Nizhny Novgorod celebrated the victory 15:7.
